On Tuesday we’ve had so much fun exploring the story “We’re going on a bear hunt”
The children helped to rescue the coloured bears from the gloop, made some binoculars to help spy the bears, recreated the story in the story tray and also went on a bear hunt during our forest school session, we had great fun going through the swishy grass, the deep cold river, of course the thick oozy mud and we even found a deep dark cave at the end!!

World book day 2023 - Thursday 2nd March
Each day this week as part of our World book day celebrations we will be looking at our favourite stories and books
Today we explored traditional stories and rhymes, from making play dough gingerbread men, to exploring the Jack and the beanstalk story we had lots of fun! We also became master house builders and tried to help the little pigs build houses and stop the naughty wolf from trying to eat them!
One of our favourite rhymes is Old MacDonald had a farm so we spent time looking at the animals on the farm and thinking about what noises they make.
In the afternoon Megan made a “Tiger who came to tea” tray for us to explore, we had great fun making tea and feeding the tigers, but they were a bit tricky and decided they wanted to be tigers that stomp in tea puddles instead!!
As well as all of the fun activities we also could dress up as our favourite book characters….. some children came to playgroup in their costumes whilst others chose to pick something from our dressing up clothes rail.
What a busy day we all had!!
Friday 3rd March
Today we explored The Very Hungry Caterpillar
We made some amazing caterpillars using corks and also some beautiful fingerprint butterfly prints.
We explored the hungry caterpillar story and the life cycle of a butterfly thinking about which part of the cycle came next.
There was a throwing challenge to see if we could feed the hungry caterpillars by throwing the food into their open mouths….. it was very tricky, but a lot of fun!
We practiced our sorting skills by sorting the fruits into the right coloured pots….. we also enjoyed just making big fruit salads, mixing all the fruit together using our fine motor skills to manipulate the tongs.
And finally for STEM Friday Megan helped us to explore capillary action with the magical flowers…. Watching the flowers gently spin and open as the water seeped through the fibres of the paper was great fun to watch….. Flowers are an important food source for Butterflies so we thought it might be good to plant some real flower seeds in the playgroup garden to encourage some caterpillar’s and butterflies in.
