Growth, Change and Transitions.

Week beginning 1st July 2024

This week we have been thinking about how we’ve all grown and changed over the past year and how things around us change and can be changed. We have spent time studying our faces with hand held mirrors and drawing what we could see. We added materials and media together to see how they changed, it was lots of messy fun and provoked lots of amazing descriptive language. We worked together to make fruity jelly exploring how we melt the solid jelly so it becomes liquid then cool it down again so it returns to its solid form. We’ve looked at size and how we change in size as we grow we used the Goldilocks and the 3 bears story to support our children to understand this concept. We also spent time thinking about how other creatures and animals grow and change too. And of course we followed our children’s interest and planned activities to support their play and exploration

Our last week together before the summer holidays

Week beginning 8th July 2024

As it was the last week before the school holidays we decided to collapse our curriculum and ask the children what they would like to explore and learn about and have a totally child led week. It was a week where we revisited our favourite activities or we facilitated the children play and exploration based on their ideas and thoughts.

It was quite interesting to see what the children chose and how they developed the activity or play further based on their own ideas and also how they encouraged others to join their play.

The end of the school year and leavers lunch

We finished our year together with an end of term and leavers lunch for all children who attend playgroup. A special time where we celebrate our rising fives as they prepare to transition to primary school and their unique contributions they have made to playgroup over the years. And a chance for our younger children to say goodbye, but also show their families some of the things we’ve been up to throughout the year.

Wishing all of our families a very happy summer break and we look forward to welcoming back those who are returning in September for more fun and exploration.
